About this instrument
A professional, traditional Celtic harp built only from the finest woods. Its design is inspired by the harp of King Brian Boru, the symbol of Ireland, and it takes its name from Galatia — the Celtic civilization that once lived in the heart of Anatolia. Thanks to its detachable base and legs it reaches a comfortable playing height, and in its original form it can also be played on the lap or seated.
A bridge between the traditional Irish harp and the modern Celtic harp, this model has slightly narrower string spacing than our other harps. String tension is medium, and very special wound strings are used in the bass.
The Brian Boru harp that inspired it can be seen on Ireland’s coins and passports (though recent research complicates the attribution — a story for another article). Galatia is not an exact copy of the original, which had much narrower spacing and metal strings, but a version adapted for today’s player. The most surprising thing about this small harp is that, thanks to its design, its voice competes with full-size harps.
Standard woods are walnut and cherry; contact us about custom wood options. Unbreakable, easily adjusted brass levers are fitted throughout. A tuning key and the detachable base and legs are included; legs are 25 cm as standard with other lengths available.
